Visa applied for on the basis of one’s skills and experience. Can be applied for and obtained by registering for an EOI on a points test basis and receiving an invitation to apply for a visa from the Immigration.

Skilled Independent visas:

Visa applied for on the basis of one’s skills and experience. Can be applied for and obtained by registering for an EOI on a points test basis and receiving an invitation to apply for a visa from the Immigration.

  • Points-based EOI: Applicants must have at least the specified number of points based on age, English language ability, employment history and qualifications, and be registered for an EOI (visa application request registration).
  • Age: between 18 and 45 years old.
  • Occupation: must be in an occupation on the list of technical occupations and have passed a technical assessment
  • English language proficiency: achieve a specified score in an English language proficiency test such as IELTS, TOEFL or PTE Academic
  • Points test: achieve a satisfactory score on the points test and have received an invitation (invitation) to apply for a visa through the Skill Select system.
  • Points test:
    • Age points: younger applicants usually earn more points.
    • English language proficiency points: applicants who demonstrate a high level of English language proficiency can earn more points.
    • Work experience points: applicants with a high level of work history and experience can earn extra points.
    • Qualification points: applicants can gain points for having qualifications or degrees required for specific occupations.
    • Regional work experience points: additional points can be earned for work experience in regional or local areas of Australia.

    Visa Application Request Expression of Interest (EOI) system

    the EOI applies to certain visas under the General Skilled Migration (GSM) programme (Skilled Independent Visa and Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa). Skilled Independent Visa and Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa.

    1. Skills Select Skills Select: EOIs are submitted through an online platform called Skills Select, which is managed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. SkillSelect is designed to match the skills of prospective migrants with the needs of the Australian labour market.
    2. Submitting an EOI: prospective applicants who wish to apply for a skilled migration visa to Australia complete an online profile on SkillSelect and submit an EOI. During this process, applicants enter their skills, qualifications, work experience, English language skills and other relevant details.
    3. Points test: the EOI includes a points test, where applicants are awarded points based on factors such as age, English language skills, work experience and education. Only applicants who meet the minimum points requirement are eligible for an invitation to apply for a visa.
    4. Ranking: submitted EOIs are ranked based on their scores in the Skills Select system, with higher scoring EOIs given priority.
    5. Invitation To Apply: periodically, the Australian Government conducts invitation rounds to invite applicants to apply for visa subclasses corresponding to the higher ranked EOI. Invitations are issued based on the applicant’s occupational demand and points score.
    6. Visa application Visa application: on receipt of an invitation to apply for a visa (ITA), EOI registrants submit a formal visa application within a specified timeframe. These include the submission of detailed documentation in support of the information provided in the EOI.

    Employer Nomination Visas

    Visas sponsored by the employer.

    Application Requirements:

    Experience: sufficient qualifications and experience in an occupation on the Employer Nominated Occupation List.
    Age: under 45 years
    English language proficiency: must have achieved a specified score on an English language proficiency test such as IELTS, TOEFL or PTE Academic.
    Other: have worked for at least two years on a designated visa, such as a long-term work visa, or have passed a technical assessment in a designated occupation and have at least three years’ work experience in that occupation.
